Perhaps I lack the cultural background

I found Cardinal Dolan's invocation very flat and uninspiring. Am I missing something?. I confess I generally find modern sounding prayers lacking in majesty and uninspiring. I will also confess to a cultural bias in favor of quotes from the Bible rather than American classics such as the Statue of Liberty.
