Even well run hospitals with good staff. Everything about the delivery of care absolutely sucks. None of it makes good use of technology. None of it is patient oriented -- it is disease oriented and system oriented. And the cost of retrofit is ridiculous. What we need to do is utterly redesign hospitals from scratch. Hell, we need to zero-base the entire healthcare delivery system and rethink it. The basic hospital care delivery model is fundamentally unchanged since the mid-20th century. Give me a billion dollars and a country to play with and I can redesign the friggin' healthcare system to simultaneously reduce cost AND deliver better care.
