Life span declines among least-educated white Americans
Am I the only one not surprised by the decline in life expectancy among the poorest and least educated white Americans? As always in complex systems, there is no one single cause but a plethora of trends that move things in this direction. We have known for a long time that this group has the worst diet (which itself often a function of structure rather than choice, given that healthier foods in poor communities are more expensive and less generally available), the least access to medical care (particularly non-emergency care), least access to information on healthy living (including low rates of in-home broadband penetration) and are often overworked and overstressed.
Heck, this (and the overall decline in lifespan) fits into my demographic snake analysis. It's why the transition is likely only 10-15 years out.
