A disquieting lesson on the limits of democracy. On the one hand, it is critical to recognize that democracy depends on more than just the party getting 50.1% imposing its will without regard to the consequences. OTOH, supporters of Morsi have a point that it breaks trust with the idea of democratically elected government to have the military step in and resolve disputes,

The U.S. has built enormous social capital in our democracy and its institutions over the 237 years of its existence. Even when our system is as dysfunctional as it is now, we still consider it unthinkable that the military will step in and say "OK, we're doing a reset."

A happy 4th. Our experiment as to whether "this government, or any government so conceived, can long endure" is still running.
