Your government and the Great LJ StrikeOut of '07

This Wall St. J. article discusses how the 50 state Attorney Generals (Gnomi: Attorneys General?) are pressuring social networking sites to "protect minors" by imposing all manner of policing and age verification requirements.

sigh Am I the only one having flashbacks to the Communications Decency Act of 1996? Anyone else remember when the Internet was the "danger to our teens" exposing them to all manner of predation, pornography, and perdition? Cause friends we got trouble, right here in Cybercity, with a capital "T" that rhymes with "P" that stands for "Ped" (ophile)!

Meanwhile, stats continue to show that (a) cyberbullying is a much greater problem for teens and pre-teens than sexual predators; and (b) your child is much more likely to get assaulted or abducted or propositioned going to the Mall than hanging on Myspace.
