If it works for electricity, will it work for network congestion.
The NYT had this piece on how giving customers greater information about electric congestion and an ability to shape their energy use accordingly, has helped them become much more efficient consumers of electricity.

I wrote this piece on Friday (before seeing the NYT piece) on how ISPs could do the same thing and give users the ability to shape their own traffic and help avoid network congestion.

It remains to be seen if ISPs will show the same willingness to empower customers. (If you will forgive the pun.)
