The current Princeton Mom flap
Am amused at many levels.

Mostly, I am amused at the prevailing notion that men remain the pliant targets to be wooed or not -- as if marriage were still an institution in which a woman's fortune is made or lost and the man is indifferent as long as the bride is "suitable." I am minded of a delightful exchange from Heinlien's generally under appreciated by highly-subversive for the time Star Beast.

Mr. Kiku: "I did not propose, my marriage to my wife was arranged by our families."

Sally: "Slavery!'

Mr Kiku: "Perhaps, but I have not been unhappy."
