Frankly, for actual research, I like the Pew Project for Excellence in Journalism. They do a week by week analysis of the campaign coverage, among other things.
And, of course, there's the "did Obama get a free ride?" "When?" "For how long?"
Now we have Obama and McCain trading accusations of the other getting a free ride by the press.
My problem is not with the "free ride," but with how utterly surface and ridiculous the coverage is. On cable in particular, it turns on trivialities with talking heads yakking on inconsequential minutiae.
