I chose to focus on one aspect of Cramer's apology. His constant refrain about how he was lied to, and Stewart's rebuke "I don't think reporting is just about tasking their word."
Which brings us to the main reason the mainstream media finds itself withering away to irrelevance. The constant refrain on why we need professional journalists is because they give us real analysis and reporting, not just opinion like blogs. Turns out, not so much. They are just repeating talking points. Well, thanks to the magic of the interwebs, any of us can look up talking points.
Will the MSM learn? Or will they keep thinking it's about gimmicks like Twitter? History does not give me much hope for existing news orgs, but it does give me hope that a new generation of journalists will figure this out.
