School used student webcams to spy on them at school and home. To quote from the article:
[students have laptops with] webcams that can be covertly activated by the schools' administrators, who have used this facility to spy on students and even their families. The issue came to light when the Robbins's child was disciplined for "improper behavior in his home" and the Vice Principal used a photo taken by the webcam as evidence.
WTF!! What I don't get is why anyone would think this was appropriate. And, why -- if you are running a covert spy operation on your students -- do you think it is appropriate to discipline students for conduct at home. Hello! I am the parent here!
"Creepy" doesn't begin to cover it.
Update: Response of the school district here. Complaint here.
