Link Harvest: 700 MHz Banding Issue

http://www.fiercewireless.com/special-reports/will-fcc-require-all-700-mhz-lte-equipment-interoperate?utm_medium=rss&utm_source=rss

A fairly accessible piece on a highly technical issue. Verizon and AT&T, as the biggest providers of LTE equipment in the US, used the standard setting process so that the upcoming equipment that works on the 700 MHz band will not be interoperable across carriers. This was possible because of the way AT&T and VZ dominated the spectrum auction, clustering their holdings on specific sub-bands. The result is more expensive equipment and delay in providing phones to rival carriers.
