Thinking of going Steampunk

I'm still trying to figure out what Steampunk is besides costuming and attitude. But I decided my standard Middle Eastern garb, with a few relatively modest adjustments, would fit well into the "mysterious Middle Eastern" Victorian stereotype. Q: is it worth it?
