Link Harvest: The Fascinating World of Slime Molds

I'm often down on evolutionary biology as practiced, so allow me to highlight an article on what I see as good and useful evolutionary biology.

The study of slime molds and their behavior actually tells us useful stuff, repeatable in labs and subject to verification. From this, it is possible to make informed speculation about possible mechanisms for how life evolved. For me, this is actually science, whereas the "Just So" stories that pass for evolutionary biology in popular culture are not worth turning to.
