Steve Jobs and the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth are both examples of how a passionate individual can make a difference in the world. And neither made their accomplishments alone. Shuttlesworth in particular, but Jobs as well, show that sometimes the most important thing we will do is influence others, bringing people together and inspiring them with a vision. The tech revolution would have happened without Jobs, and the civil rights movement would have happened without Shuttlesworth. But they would have evolved differently, and we would be the poorer for their absence -- even though we would never know what we were missing.
Who knows what individuals are out there today, quietly making a difference? Perhaps it is yourself.
